Sumptuous Strawberry Supper -- tasty and fun
Both at 5 pm and at 6:30 pm, the parish hall was filled with members of the community who reserved a place at the Annual Strawberry Supper. In fact at the later setting, some folks, who hadn't made a reservation, took a chance they could squeeze in. And, the organizers were happy to accommodate by edging in a couple extra places.
The menu was generously sliced baked ham, roasted chicken plus a wide assortment of summer salads that included various potato salads, special spinach salad, Marylou's famous egg salad, rolls, lemon water, coffee and tea.
The 'pièce de resistance' was what topped it all off -- fresh local strawberries, picked just the day before.
The strawberries were served on fresh angel food cake with ice cream plus a topping a freshly whipped cream. The berries were wonderfully juicy and sweet but not too sweet -- marvelous.
Marlyou and Helen M had a terrific crew to help prepare the food fare, decorate the place settings and make sure the buffet table was always stocked with all that was needed. In addition to the parish team of helpers, a few members of the local community also volunteered. Thank you to each and every one.
And... very special thanks to the young 'Sacchitiello' crew for their energetic and tireless help!
Numerous people remarked, as they were heading home, about how delicious the meal was and how the strawberries and trimmings topped everything off so well. It is great to hear how well people enjoyed the outing.
One couple in particular, boaters Jim and Ann from Bowmanville, made it a point for the third year in a row to make sure their itinerary put them in Buckhorn at the same time as the Annual Strawberry Supper. Others in attendance hailed from Lakefield, Apsley and other nearby locations.
We extend our sincere thanks to all those who attended and thereby supported the ministry and outreach initiatives of St Matthew - St Aidan. Proceeds for the Strawberry Supper enable the parish to reach out to help those in need in our local community and beyond.
Blessings and thanks to you from the people of 'the church in town'.
