Christmas Feast at Buckhorn School
On 17 December, members of St. Matthew – St. Aidan’s parish were invited to a sumptuous Christmas Feast at the Buckhorn Pubic School. The formal invitation was sent to the parish by Ms Mary Lou Wright, Principal of the school. The feast was catered by the culinary students from the Lakefield District Intermediate and Secondary School. The parish is very pleased to be able to offer support for the breakfast programmes at both schools.
Ms Mary Lou introduced long-time volunteers to the breakfast programme from the parish; namely, Nancy Fairweather and Eunice Blakeley, who presented a one thousand dollar cheque to the school on behalf of the parish. Nancy Dunlop, a Warden of the parish, also attended this happy occasion.
Ms. Mary Lou then invited The Rev’d Glenn Empey, Priest-in-charge for St. Matthew – St. Aidan’s to say the grace after which over a hundred students eagerly lined up to have a taste of the turkey dinner with all the trimmings.
Each year, the parish allocates funds from the proceeds of the Loonie Dinner and Auction to support the local school breakfast programme. Members of the local community and many area merchants offer their support to this annual event through their attendance and through the donation of items for the auction.
Thanks to the outreach of the parish in support of these worthy programmes, every child, at these schools, is able to begin the learning day with a healthy breakfast.
Blessings to the Principal, Breakfast Programme Volunteers, staff, and students at Buckhorn School and at the Lakefield District Intermediate and Secondary School.
Merry Christmas to each and everyone.
